Di Maria Stars as PSG Progress in Cup

Angel Di Maria capped a superb performance with two goals as Coupe de France holders Paris Saint-Germain beat Dijon 3-0 in Tuesday's quarter-finals.

Di Maria has stepped into the breach since Neymar's metatarsal injury with five goals, the latest two helping seal PSG's progression to the last four with ease.

A sumptuous lob put Thomas Tuchel's side ahead, before he pounced on a loose ball to double their advantage before the break.

Their intensity dropped in the second half but Thomas Meunier added a late third to keep PSG's treble hopes alive.

Manchester City have handed a one-year contract extension to Eliaquim Mangala despite the defender not featuring in Pep Guardiola's first-team plans. Mangala last played a Premier League match for City in a 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace in December 2017. The French centre-back was then sent on loan to Everton, where he suffered a serious knee ligament injury in his second match. The 28-year-old has not featured for City in any competition this season but recently returned to training and the club confirmed his terms had been extended beyond June 2019 in a short statement. "Eliaquim Mangala has signed a one-year contract extension, keeping him at Manchester City until 2020," it read.

Lionel Messi had blood in his mouth after a clash with Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos during Saturday's La Liga Clasico, claims Gerard Pique. Messi and Ramos were involved in a flashpoint in the first half of Barca's 1-0 win at the Santiago Bernabeu that moved Ernesto Valverde's men 10 points clear at the top of the La Liga table. Ramos knocked the ball past Messi but then seemed to thrust his arm into the face of the Barcelona captain, who made his displeasure clear to the officials, although Madrid's skipper was not punished. "Leo had blood in his mouth," said Pique. "It was an aggression. "Intensity does not have to be measured. I get along great with the Real Madrid players. "But when you go out to the field you defend your colours and the rivalry is what you get. "But once the game is over, the cordiality is mutual, the players respect us very much."

Juventus have been left sweating on the fitness of star man Cristiano Ronaldo, with the Portuguese set to undergo tests on an ankle injury. The former Real Madrid man picked up a knock to his left ankle during the Bianconeri's 1-0 win over Bologna on Sunday. But concerns have grown since then, with Ronaldo unable to participate in full training with the rest of the Juve squad on Wednesday, and will now be further examined by the Serie A champions' medical team. Fellow forward Douglas Costa also trained separately on Wednesday, with a club statement reading: "Both Douglas Costa and Cristiano Ronaldo trained seperately from the group. "For CR7, check-ups have been scheduled for today and tomorrow following a knock to his left ankle during the game against Bologna." The injury could not come at a worse time for Massimiliano Allegri's side as they enter a crucial period in their season.
