Ozil Shines as Arsenal Spank Bournemouth

Mesut Ozil marked his Premier League recall with a goal and an assist as Arsenalcruised to a crushing 5-1 home victory over an out of sorts Bournemouth.

Named for his first top-flight start since January 29, playmaker Ozil justified Unai Emery's decision by scoring inside four minutes and providing the pass for the equally impressive Henrikh Mkhitaryan to double the advantage.

Bournemouth responded through Lys Mousset but the Gunners were never threatened as they kept the pressure on third-placed Tottenham ahead of this weekend's north London derby.

Mkhitaryan got two assists of his own after half-time for Laurent Koscielny and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, before substitute Alexandre Lacazette's free-kick rubbed salt into the wound of Bournemouth's ninth straight away league loss.

Pep: Man City Even Better Than Last Year

Pep Guardiola says his Manchester City side are "much, much better" than last season, despite being in a much tighter title race. City romped to the title with 100 points last time out but are now involved in a nip-and-tuck fight with Liverpool, who are one point behind having drawn with Everton on Sunday. The Blues have already lost four games this season compared to just two in the entirety of the previous campaign, but Guardiola insists that his side have improved when you consider they are still fighting in three competitions, having already won the Carabao Cup. "In the way we play, we play much, much better," Guardiola told reporters after Saturday's 1-0 win at Bournemouth. He was then asked if that would be the case even if City do not win the title this season, to which he replied: "Yeah. We want the league and we will be disappointed if that does not happen but we cannot forget the contender we face with Liverpool."

No More Monday La Liga Games After Fan Protest

La Liga games will no longer take place on Mondays, says the Spanish FA's president Luis Rubiales. Alaves supporters held a mock funeral during their La Liga win over Levante in protest at the match being switched to Monday night for live TV coverage. Alaves fans also protested about fixture changes during their game against Athletic Bilbao, held on a Monday in December. "Business is important, but fans more so," Rubiales said on Twitter. He added: "There will be no more football on Mondays. From next season in La Liga, there will be football on Saturdays and Sundays. We will see what happens on Fridays, if we reach a good agreement for all." Spanish top-flight games have been played on Mondays since 2010 and while the league's organising body says the matches have large television audiences, they have led to a fall in attendances.

Dramatic Night Sees Juve Sneak Past Napoli

Lorenzo Insigne's penalty cannoned agonisingly back off the post as Napoli lost 2-1 to runaway leaders Juventus in a Serie A thriller that saw both teams finish with 10 men. Miralem Pjanic converted the 28th-minute free-kick after Napoli's young goalkeeper Alex Meret was sent off for a professional foul on Cristiano Ronaldo and Emre Can made it 2-0 before half-time. Despite operating with reduced numbers, Napoli hit the post through Piotr Zielinski between the Juve goals and Pjanic's second yellow card for deliberate handball gave them hope – as did Jose Callejon's 61st-minute goal. Insigne provided a superb assist but could not complete the comeback after Alex Sandro fell foul of a VAR review for handball having blocked Fabian Ruiz's goalbound shot. Napoli's relentless pressure then dropped off and Massimiliano Allegri's undefeated Juve now boast a mammoth 16-point lead over Carlo Ancelotti's men at the summit.

Pochettino Apologises to Referee Mike Dean & accepts FA charge

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has issued a public apology to referee Mike Dean after angrily confronting the official at the end of his side's 2-1 defeat at Burnley. The 46-year-old Argentine, who also argued with the fourth official during the match, had already admitted he "crossed the line" with Dean. He has been charged with improper conduct by the Football Association over the matter. Addressing a news conference before Wednesday's Premier League game against Chelsea, Pochettino added: "Watching my behaviour afterwards on video, I need to accept the charge from the FA. I need to apologise to Mike Dean, I cannot behave in that way. "My behaviour was public and now I want to apologise in a public way. I need to apologise to him and all of the officials."
