Mourinho Defends Decision to Sell Salah at Chelsea

Jose Mourinho has defended his decision to allow Mohamed Salah to leave Chelsea in 2014, claiming he “wasn’t physically prepared” for the Premier League.

Salah joined the Blues in 2013 and scored two goals in 13 league appearances, including the final goal in Mourinho’s team’s 6-0 win over Arsenal in March 2014.

He was loaned to Fiorentina before being sold to Roma in 2016, where he earned his reputation as a reliable goalscorer in Serie A.

Mourinho, who was sacked by Chelsea in 2015 just months after winning a third league title with the club, told BeIN Sports: “I asked Chelsea to sign Mohamed Salah, he was inexperienced and not prepared physically to adapt to the style of play in Premier league.

“Now, he is physically and mentally strong and well adapted to Premier League because he went to Italy and gained experience.

“He is a wonderful person and I wanted him to stay at Chelsea but he was looking for more minutes.”

Manchester City reiterated their belief that there is an "organised and clear" attempt to "damage the club's reputation" after allegations were made claiming they gave Jadon Sancho's agent a contract to work as a scout to cover up a payment for his move from Watford. German publication Der Spiegel claims to have seen documents from whistleblowers Football Leaks that show City paid Emeka Obasi £200,000 as part of the scouting contract to find players in south and central America. Der Spiegel alleged this payment was actually in relation to Sancho's move from Watford as a 14-year-old to circumvent FIFA rules that prevent agent fees being made in transfers involving minors. City said they would not reply to any reports stemming from purported hacked documents, while contending claims they failed to offer comment to Der Spiegel. Lorenzo Insigne's penalty cannoned agonisingly back off the post as Napoli lost 2-1 to runaway leaders Juventus in a Serie A thriller that saw both teams finish with 10 men. Miralem Pjanic converted the 28th-minute free-kick after Napoli's young goalkeeper Alex Meret was sent off for a professional foul on Cristiano Ronaldo and Emre Can made it 2-0 before half-time. Despite operating with reduced numbers, Napoli hit the post through Piotr Zielinski between the Juve goals and Pjanic's second yellow card for deliberate handball gave them hope – as did Jose Callejon's 61st-minute goal. Real Madrid have refused to rule out selling Isco and Marco Asensio if the money could be reinvested in signing Manchester United's Paul Pogba or another marquee midfielder, as per reports. Madrid have already spent over €300 million shaking up a squad which failed in 2018-19, with Eden Hazard the headline addition to their forward line, and centre-forward Luka Jovic and winger Rodrygo also arriving. Atletico Report Barcelona Over Griezmann Deal

Atletico Madrid have reported Barcelona to La Liga as they continue to pursue an €80 million (£72m/$90m) addition to the transfer which has taken Antoine Griezmann to Camp Nou. A World Cup-winning forward has completed a move from the Spanish capital to Catalunya. Barca have paid out the €120m (£108m/$135m) required to trigger the release clause that existed in his Atletico contract. They believe they have done nothing wrong , but domestic rivals are arguing that an agreement was reached with Griezmann when his exit fee stood at €200m (£179m/$224m). Atletico vowed when a move was announced that they would be opening legal proceedings . That fight has now been taken to La Liga officials and those in power at the Spanish FA (RFEF). Atletico had been planning to take their case to FIFA, in the hope that world football’s governing body could rule in their favour.
