Morata Scores First Goal for Atletico

Alvaro Morata scored his first Atletico Madrid goal as they beat Villarreal.

 The striker, on loan from Chelsea, met Filipe Luis' left-wing cross with a low volley from near the penalty spot.

 He celebrated by pretending he was speaking to a video official, having been denied goals by VAR against two former sides - Juventus on Wednesday and Real Madrid on 9 February.

 Saul scored a late second as he ran on to Diego Costa's long ball to lob Sergio Asenjo from eight yards out.

 Atleti are seven points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona, who beat Sevilla 4-2 on Saturday.

 They could have won by more, with substitute Costa missing a one on one and Jose Maria Gimenez having a header saved.

Manchester City have handed a one-year contract extension to Eliaquim Mangala despite the defender not featuring in Pep Guardiola's first-team plans. Mangala last played a Premier League match for City in a 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace in December 2017. The French centre-back was then sent on loan to Everton, where he suffered a serious knee ligament injury in his second match. The 28-year-old has not featured for City in any competition this season but recently returned to training and the club confirmed his terms had been extended beyond June 2019 in a short statement. Juventus have been left sweating on the fitness of star man Cristiano Ronaldo, with the Portuguese set to undergo tests on an ankle injury. The former Real Madrid man picked up a knock to his left ankle during the Bianconeri's 1-0 win over Bologna on Sunday. But concerns have grown since then, with Ronaldo unable to participate in full training with the rest of the Juve squad on Wednesday, and will now be further examined by the Serie A champions' medical team. Fellow forward Douglas Costa also trained separately on Wednesday, with a club statement reading: "Both Douglas Costa and Cristiano Ronaldo trained seperately from the group. "For CR7, check-ups have been scheduled for today and tomorrow following a knock to his left ankle during the game against Bologna." The injury could not come at a worse time for Massimiliano Allegri's side as they enter a crucial period in their season.

Gerard Pique questioned Santiago Solari complaints about the fixture schedule after the Real Madrid coach asked why Barcelona will have an extra day to prepare for Wednesday's Clasico, nothing extra rest did not help Los Blancos when the clubs clashed in October. Man City Handed De Bruyne Setback, Pep Confirms

Pep Guardiola has conceded that Manchester City are set to be without Kevin De Bruyne “for a while”, but insists a knock picked up by John Stones is “not a big problem”. The reigning Premier League champions moved back to the top of the table on Saturday with a 1-0 win away at Bournemouth. Victory was most welcome, but it came at some cost. De Bruyne was forced off shortly before half-time, before Stones joined him back in the dressing room shortly after the restart. Guardiola admits that he is set to lose a Belgium international playmaker for a third time this season, but he is confident that an England international defender will return to his plans shortly. The City boss told BBC Sport: “Vincent Kompany wasn’t 100% and John Stones does not have a big problem, it was a precaution. “Kevin will be out for a while with a muscular problem, hamstring.”

Pochettino Given Match Touchline Ban

Mauricio Pochettino has been handed a two-match touchline ban by the Football Association following his angry exchange with referee Mike Dean after Tottenham's defeat to Burnley last month. The Spurs manager approached the official at the end of his side's 2-1 defeat at Turf Moor in the Premier League on February 23 and continued his tirade despite being told to walk away. Pochettino was seemingly initially angered by a decision to award a corner from which the Clarets opened the scoring through Chris Wood, though his mood appeared to worsen by something Dean said in response. The Argentine later apologised and accepted that he had "made a mistake", but the FA decided to hit Pochettino with a misconduct charge that he has accepted, leading to a two-match touchline ban and £10,000 fine. An FA statement read: "Mauricio Pochettino has been fined £10,000 and will serve a two-match touchline ban following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing."
